Topic of the day: THE TOWN HALL DEBATE AND OBAMA AS OUR NEXT PRESIDENT (updated and new)
Posted 8 weeks 1 day ago byI was not moved. It was more of the same. It went on and on and on and I could not wait for it to be over. More of he said, He said... McCain still acting out like a little angry Napolean... and Obama, sitting there smug as if he just sat with Ghandi. How was it for you? Were there any reining moments that I may have missed in my boredom? Actually, the highlight for me was when Cindy McCain came out in her Jackie O Midnight Blue suit. She looked like a first lady, but that does not mean I am supporting McCain and let us be very clear... Cindy McCain is NO Jackie O.
THE ONLY DEFINING MOMENT is this... it is VERY CLEAR that Obama will win this election. You would have to be sitting in a corner doing crack not to see the writing on the wall. Last nights circus made it very clear how angry McCain is; and how Presidental Obama was. Again, I am NOT supporting Obama or throwing in the towel, but come on, you had to have seen it too. Whether you like him or not, or agree with him, he is going to be our next President. I think whether McCain is worthy or not of the Presidency is not, and has not been the issue. I believe Bush took care of that for McCain in running this country into the ground and everyone is tired of the same ole same ole. That is why Obama will win. Not because of who he is, but because he is the Democrat running we need a change. Unfortunately as I have said all along, it will be spare change, but being a bankrupt America, even spare change is better than no change at all. Rubbing two pennies together is bettter than no pennies at all, that is unless, you are a bad penny.........................

LOL - Kim Jong-il
Submitted on October 12th, 2008 by John 20001. Kim Jong-il, "Dear Leader" of North Korea since 1994. The son of the communist state's "Great Leader", Kim Jong-il has super-expensive tastes, with 17 palaces and collections of hundreds of cars and about 20,000 video tapes. On one state visit to Russia, he reportedly had live lobsters airlifted daily to his armoured private train. He is believed to spend around $650,000 a year on Hennessy VSOP cognac and maintains an entourage of young lovelies known as the "Pleasure Brigade"
There are those that have verified that he has probably been dead since around 2003 - thus face-to-face talk would have been impossible - unless you are a messiah of course.

Submitted on October 9th, 2008 by BeoObama probably will do it with low level talks....NOW. He has seen the reaction of his own party and the rest of the people, so Obama being Obama, has modified his position, as he has done on many other issues depending on how the wind is blowing.
I agree with you that we should not be entangling ourselves in any other wars. I don't care how badly off the country is...let some of the Europeans help them out. We have sacrificed enough blood and treasure. We need to fix our own broken nation and screw the others. If they want to kill each other, I really could not care less. They'll fight until someone finally loses enough that it stops. As long as our own interests are not involved, let them fight it out. They will soon run out of machetes.

Submitted on October 9th, 2008 by BeoI was merely pointing out that Cuba is not a country we want to emulate. The system is falling apart. There are no rich, no middle class, just poor. My friend who went to Cuba was making a film and only made observations, not political statements. Please read my thoughts carefully as your response was totally unrelated to what I said.
Agree Obama probably
Submitted on October 9th, 2008 by rom12921would assume talks would be preceeded by lower-level officials first and would follow diplomatic protocals. Sen Obama obviously would not risk the reputation of the US.
It is unwise to negotiate and legitimize North Korea. Albright & Clinton's billions in aid bought us nothing but more trouble. How about Iran? Carter still can't believe they lied to him. A man of God, the Ayotollah Khomeni.
Senator Obama's well-meaning tactics have been tried and failed before. I though he was about change, not insanity.
I say leave them be. Let's not bog down our troops with endless occupations in case we need to defend ourselves. What's wrong with providing for a common defense?

So Cuba is now better off becuase we refuse to talk with them or did you just prove my point?
We haven't talked for over 30 years and your friend is sad that they are poor. Is that what you just told me? And your friend says that we should continue to ignore Fidel/Raul because they are finally about to break and things will get better for the Cubans and they will become our ally? Is that what works for Cuba and your friend?
North Korea - I don't care if you don't like the deal she made, it doesn't mean we don't talk beacuse that deal didn't work out as well as we had planned. Sorry Iran, Korea screwed us keep building your plants.
Great foriegn relations.

Submitted on October 9th, 2008 by BeoWhat planet are you on? You cannot possibly be saying that Cuba is doing just fine. A friend of mine just did a documentary in Cuba ( it is still in production and will not be seen for probably another year) and it is a mess there. The people are dirt poor. The person who is the focus of the story returned to his homeland after a lifetime of being a ball player in the USA. He was in tears to see how poor his country was and how shabby his old neighborhood is now. Regardlless of what Michael Moore says, the people there cannot even get aspirin, nevermind quality health care. It is like the former Soviet Union... all the people are poor except for the high up party members.
As far as North Korea is concerned. Clinton sent Secy of State Marion Allbright to negotiate with them. She was very successful and made a deal with them: if we sent them billions of dollars in bribe money to help with their energy problems, N. Korea would halt its nuclear development. We all know what happened there, or at least we should. North Korea took our money, kept developing nuclear energy, and is now selling the technology to our adversaries like Syria.
They may start it...
Submitted on October 9th, 2008 by Ironguybut neither will be able to fix the problems America is having now. It will be up to my generation to do that. I have more faith that obama is more capable of starting the process, but in the end, my generation will be the one to fix it.
As for the debate. After about 30 min into it, I decided to watch something else. It wasn't good at all. The polls say Obama won again, but in my opinion it didn't matter.
He is putting double digit spacing between him and McCain. If you wan't to bet money on McCain, then don't bet too much.

Submitted on October 9th, 2008 by Grains of SaltWhen did Obama say he could chance everything with one face to face meeting? He didn't
Obama has called for unconditional direct talks with the leaders of adversaries such as Iran and North Korea, assuming that groundwork by lower-level officials indicated that the top-level talks would be fruitful.
Do you know what bush has been doing. That's right. Sending lower-level officials to talk with Terahn
We were making head way too, Pablo. We were close to being able to set up an outpost, de faco embassy there. The admnistration nixed those plans since it might influence the election. Does that make sense? Country first my a$$.
Cuba? How many years did we wait? Instead of trading with us, they have survived just fine. This isn't about trades with Iran, it's about nukes. You and McCain want to saber rattle. Calling diplomacy naive as McCain has is dangerous. We've seen enough of that.

Submitted on October 9th, 2008 by PabloNeither Candidate won and neither proved that they are better than spit.
The questions asked were how shall I put it "neutral" to the point that the debate was boring and basically they were repeating their stump items.
On the economy, Obama Lied through his teeth and there is no way in hell or 39 more hells that he can do even 1/4th of what he is suggesting. The total bill for all his promises is somewhere around 230 trillion dollars. American can even figure out how to pay off a debt of 12 Trillion.
McCain was lost in Space with his wacky than wacky idea. McCain did a typical thing for him. He decided to throw out a liberal idea and merge it with his conservative one like he has done in the senate for year. The problem is that those items are just not compatible
I am Warren Buffet Obama supporter and major economic advisor who has said that the real policy of Obama is to raise taxes and to raise it for everyone from $10,000 a year and up.
That was crazy of McCain to suggest him for being on his treasury much less in charge of it.
On Foreign Policy, Obama is still not sure where he stands and it seems as time passes the more Obama tries to make himself seem more middle of the road. However, before the Luncheon with Pelosi last Tuesday week ago, Obama promised to meet with Cuba and Iran again in a face to face discussion to try and restart some sort of normal relations.
That is stupid and beyond dangerous! It will make a declining governments which are about to collapse get a second breath. Iran is nearing a point of civil war where the people hate the government. It may not be a shooting war but it may be one. Its just a matter of time.
Cuba is moving toward democracy and changing many of its policies to come into line with US demands because they want trade with the US.
But Obama could throw all that away! It takes time to force political change. Obama thinks that he can in one meeting change the world! An idiot delux!
I just hope Obama gets arrested and deported before the elections happens. It is just sickening to know that he is not a US citizen because he did not follow the required rules. Its also sickening that the Secrete Service, Homeland Security, the FBI and the Attorney General have not even tried to look at Obama.
The Federal Judge in PA got it right. Obama will have to prove two things.
1. Born in Hawaii and
2. Took the oath of citizenship after he turned 18.
But the Judges order already sums up that he Judge thinks that Obama is not qualified and could rule him not eligible under Article II dual citizenship disqualification.
Cindy McCain is an elegant
Submitted on October 8th, 2008 by BeoCindy McCain is an elegant woman. Jackie O was also elegant and probably fulfilled the role as expected at the time. She wasn't perfect either. Her family had the title and bearing and Kennedy had the money. She ignored his philanderings and kept occupied spending his money buying designer clothes and spending the country's money redecorating the White House.
She also picked a second husband totally for the money, a Greek billionaire, and had quite the interesting pre-nup. It actually stated how many times a week she would perform "the nuptials".
She lived the life of the rich and famous and kept her two kids away from the Kennedy cousins which was her greatest achievement. But that is a whole other story. I often wonder how the Kennedy's would make it if they didn't head all these so called non-profits that they rake in 6 for 7 figure salaries as the managers. Boy, the rest of us are just suckers.
Sorry I am off on a tangent once again, but that is what they call a thread, is it not?
Well, now

Your Right About Cindy McCain.
Submitted on October 8th, 2008 by AnonymousShe is no Jackie O. Cindy spent much of her adult life delivering medical care to the poorest of the poor in the slums of the third world.
The closest Jackie O came to a slum was when she was shopping off Fifth avenue and had to settle for something off the rack.
I posted last night right
Submitted on October 8th, 2008 by BeoI posted last night right after the "debate" but for some reason it didn't get put here. I probably won't have the same fire in the belly but here goes. Last night was a complete waste of time. Obama was his professorial, didactic self and McCain woke up about a third of the way through.
The format should have worked, but didn't. The candidates were stifled and the audience really was not that engaged like you would expect at a town meeting.
Tom Brokaw was the biggest disappointment to me because I thought he would have been more adept at selecting the questions from the emails and the audience. He also did not insist that the candidates answer the questions they were asked. They both went off on their talking points and it was very frustrating.
It is too bad that we don't have a real third party candidate to stir things up.
