Topic of the Day: Could Hillary snag the nomination?
Posted 14 weeks 22 hours ago byThe New York Sun's editorial page wonders if the forces might be aligning for Hillary to make a run for the Democratic nomination:
What if, by the time the convention rolls around, Mr. Obama isn't just running neck and neck with Mr. McCain but is lagging by, say, five percentage points, or if Mr. Obama makes a big blunder with his choice of a running mate, or some other campaign stumble? Then expect the whispers already swirling among Clinton supporters to turn into a full-fledged roar.
Think it could happen? How damaging would it be to the Democratic party?

VP name game

here is how it stood on June 30
Submitted on August 19th, 2008 by John 2000To me it is rather stunning! You better believe HRC has some clout. Study this:
http://www.diversityj.com/ElectionResult...
Look for some stunning Friday news? lol
Now if O announces VP on Wednesday as thought, and HRC pulled off the unimaginable, they would have to re-decide VP too. And then of course it would all go to court. Maybe decided by November 4th. Even I wouldn't want to experience this.
It has to be impossible, right?
There is another possibility
Submitted on August 19th, 2008 by PabloThat Clinton has kissed Obama while holding a dagger!
It totally possible for the Clintons with the lions share of the speeches to be given are from her people to snatch the nomination from Obama though very careful manuvering behind the scenes.
While Obama may think he has it sowed up, the Clintons could be working to cause a revolution in the back rooms which would shock the DNC.
As Clinton points out, Her supporters will support her and Obamas will have no choice as they are so left that they can not bear to vote republican.
Where as Obama can lose the Clinton voters to McCain because those have been the Regan Democrats who have voted for republicans in the past.
So we will have to see how it plays out.
It is said
Submitted on August 19th, 2008 by John 2000that the Dem VP will be announced perhaps on Wednesday. So, hopefully, that mystery will be cleared up. The day before the convention, the rules committee will will finalize full vote count for Florida and Michigan ... just imagine if they had allowed this from the beginning! It is quite hypocritical.
But, so what, eh?
It will be one great big fat happy party "... and the great butterfly ballot Sunshine State casts ... ?" California? Massachusetts? Pennsylvania? Ohio? West Virginia? Kentucky? Texas? Michigan? New York? almost all the big states that had actual primary voting ... are all going to give to Obama who took a number of Republican state caucuses. WOW. errr, fascinating. There is still potential for interesting ... and I don't think the sour will go away.
2012? who can say? The world could be much different by then regardless of who wins this sad affair.

Submitted on August 18th, 2008 by PabloI think that Obama wants Clinton to have the vote on the floor just so that in the end, his machine proves that he won legit.
Thus there is no more vote for clinton distractions in the final push against McCain.
Its his last ditch effort to get the significant Clinton voters who have not jumped on the Obama band wagon.
no matter how much the media has tried to prop up Obama, its very obvious that Obama is scared to death that the half the party will abandon him for McCain. Otherwise, Clinton would not be kissed so sweetly and have her every wish granted at the Convention.
Thus Clinton will allow Obama to get the nomination without screaming fraud and other issues. But I really think that Clinton is smiling knowing that if Obama really looses to McCain, that she has nomination locked for sure in 2012 with the I told you so to back it up.
McCain is too old to run for 2 terms and I really doubt that he would be able to do 2 terms. He might try, but I really think that only 4 years will be all he can get.
we are now a week closer
Submitted on August 18th, 2008 by John 2000to D-Day from when this convention question was posed by Ike. Some deals have the appearance of having been made ... and I think that indeed they have. I expect a very sanitized convention complete with total kissie kissie joyfest projection, with maybe a wacko moment or two of dissent sound byte. Each day that passes is one fewer that the big boys need to put up total defense shield (don't they ever get tired?)

Submitted on August 18th, 2008 by PabloThere is just too much smoke.
hell its total black out with the DNC and the Democrats saying there is not smoke as people are passing out from all over the place or jumping ship to get away.
No, with Obama its no longer where there is smoke there is fire. No its a blaze 100 miles high and wide bearing down and some people are simply willing to get burned while others like me try to run like hell as far as I can away from the Obama flame O Lies proceed before it.
and then there is stuff like this

Submitted on August 16th, 2008 by Pablotrue it always been dirty at the top and especially extra dirty with the Democrats because of their ties to organized crime through unions.
But Never before in history before the Clintons came along was so many important witnesses to events suddenly find themselves dead so publically.
Now we have another potentially super hot witnesss that could cause some problems for the DNC.
This all started with Ray Buckley and the gay porno stuff that after further investigations have turned up gay kiddie porn. The problem is there was a suggestion of a link to Obama because some of the items that were under investigations was done when Obama was campaigning last summer in New Hampshire. The kids who were raped or allegiedly raped were tied to the Washinton DC Kiddie porn and prostitution ring that they broke up recently.
Like I have said something stinks in Obama land.
who knows! who did?
Submitted on August 16th, 2008 by John 2000there is a pretty good string of questionable death incidents on Obama mafia too.
It's a mighty dirty business with stakes so high.

Submitted on August 16th, 2008 by PabloCan anyone say Clinton killer machine at work?
Was it not the Clintons who had two people who died extremely strange ways before they were to testify at the white water investigations and the other who was Monica L's boss?
Both of those through so called head shots and suicide very simular to this.
I wonder who else will get the axe before the elections are done and what dirty laundry can be released.
There is this possible? mystery now around Kaine

which is kept pretty quiet ... but it would be no way to start out a Fall campaign ...
Both candidates
Submitted on August 16th, 2008 by Pablohave a short and a mini list.
The so called short lists are about 10 to 15 deep.
The mini list is 5.
Obama as far as I know does not have a mini list. My understanding is that Obama had a person in mind from the beginning of this look for VP back in March. Thus Obama has not changed his mind who that person is.
Its a person which the Clintons hate and that much is certain based on the words and efforts of the clintons since June.
Not sure that Sam Nunn helps Obama. After all, Nunn retired from the senate. It would benefit McCain if Obama Chose Nunn because Nunn is about the same age as McCain. Thus Obama's age comments will bite him back in the arse if he did choose him.
Sam Nunn ?
Submitted on August 15th, 2008 by John 2000I never heard that he has been eliminated.
Nope
Submitted on August 15th, 2008 by PabloObama has hinted and his campaign staff has stated that the VP will be a man from the South to try and bring in the white vote.
Thus from the list that the Obama Campaign has offically acknowledged, that leaves Tim Kaine as the only one who fits their definition.
So I expect an Obama Kaine ticket to face McCain and one of two possibles.
McCain did a tracking poll in 20 battle ground states with a list of 5 possible candidates.
Those five were Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Mike Huckabee, Charlie Crist, John Thune and Mitt Romney.
Out of that poll, Tim Pawlenty and Mike Huckabee came out as the people's choice with Charlie Crist not far behind. Mitt Romney was dead last in the poll.
So I expect Tim Pawlenty to be the McCain VP who can add Wisconsin, North Dakota and most likely Michigan to McCain's win side. Ohio and Pennsylvania have heard of him and he tracks very well in the poll in those states.
Unlike Obama's choices which may grant him one or two states, McCain could get a boost of 5 or more states with his choice based on the polling McCain has been doing.
No ... not now

Wouldn't it be fun to get a hold of those lists?
I’ll predict,
Submitted on August 11th, 2008 by HamiltonThe Clintons have been mollified with the microphone at the convention. At least for now; I really do think Slick Willie is making “I told you so” calls too many super delegates concerning the Messiah’s recent and continuous intellectual goofs. Hillary would be up 15 points in the polls right now. She would be appearing pro America and as humble as pie. Barack is smirking himself out of the Whitehouse. Of course it could all be wishful thinking on my part.

Submitted on August 11th, 2008 by John 2000It would be one for the ages. The repercussions would be off the chart. The only way for it to happen would be if some real bad Obama news or scandal came out to show that he absolutely would have no chance, and that would have to happen real soon. Even then it would have to be more than just rumors, etc. Such a thing would mean total chaos and then if Hillary won out, Barack could not even be VP candidate. Any type of purely procedural overthrow would be nuclear option and all parties involved know that.
So the best that Hillary could possibly realistically hope for is to use extreme psychological pressure to force a way in as VP. I do think that this is a definite possibility, since it might be the ONLY solution at this point, and even that would be perilous once it got to the floor and if FL/MI were actually given full vote. If it is going to be other than Hillary then I suggest that Obama campaign go back in time several weeks and make the decision. Oooops, can't do that.
The show MUST go on, and thank God the time is getting short. Predictions: None.
Fact: Obama is running scared and prevent defenses in the final two minutes often lose games.
Sliced bread
Submitted on August 11th, 2008 by rom12921I support Pablo's assessment, but I would like to see a Dem Convention coup mainly for historical reasons.
Not likely
Submitted on August 11th, 2008 by PabloThe DNC has made its bed and now must sleep in it.
They went through huge efforts to get both the clintons to speak at the convention and to broker some sort of truce and uneasy peace with the clintons to support Obama.
With that much effort and the pure fact that both the Clintons had to swallow their pride, there is no benefit for the clintons to want the nomination right now. They would be no benefit in the end.
For a Clinton political career, it would be most beneficial for Obama to lose this election for a 2012 run with an I told you so.
An unknown heavily unexperienced candidate only equals defeat was one of Clinton's battle cries that won her 6 of the biggest states of California, Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Florida.
Obama just lied and stole his way to the nomination. But with so much Media love and so much effort being placed to make Obama look good, I just do not see how it will happen.
Watch any CNN program and you see what I am refering to. You get clips of McCain on his policies where the media people blast McCain on the small clips then you get full comments and full speeches from Obama with the Media people falling all over themselves trying to make Obama's policies and speeches the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Even now, all the media is saying McCain may have the better energy high ground over Obama but in the end, its Obama who owns the full economic polices when you add Seniors and trade issues.
That is actually a lie by the media. All those Seniors are Clinton Supporters and most of them are Regan Democrats. Thus McCain has the senior vote of something in the order of 67% to Obama's 28%
Never believe the media in this race. They are telling just as many lies as Obama is these days.
