TOPICS OF INTEREST WITH RBA
Posted 28 weeks 3 hours ago byRBA may not be the RBA you are used to, but with a little help from the RBA community, I believe some rebuilding and refocusing is in order.
Now, looking towards the future, we have a golden opportunity to create a site o that works for all of us.
Some of my questions would be:
1.What topics would you like to see listed as TOPICS of the DAY, and how many with of course each sides point of view. I am trying to help organize this site and any suggestions on this matter would be great.
2.How do you feel about putting out the RBA word to get more eyes reading and more fingers blogging on this site blogging? The more interest we get on this site, the more room for growth.
3.What about weekly forums discussing important matters at hand together as an RBA community?
It would be nice to become a bit more focused on each topic, instead of just blogging topics.
Let me know any and all suggestions so that I can pass them on and we can start really focusing closely at the matters at hand from the RED/BLUE perspective. Emails are great to reach me on this site as I will be passing them on to the appropriate people.

when I changed
Submitted on May 26th, 2008 by John 2000... to 'urinating' it went right through. The other is still pending administrator.
I just had a comment delayed with
Submitted on May 26th, 2008 by John 2000"The comment you posted has been flagged as potential spam. It will not be visible until the site administrator has a chance to review it." message.
It contained a colorful common alternate term for urinating and also contained a percent symbol.

Submitted on May 22nd, 2008 by AnonymousWhat happened to the moderators? I checked "about us" and I haven't found an explanation.
A few ideas....
Submitted on May 22nd, 2008 by MercyphotographyDear Skye,
Thanks for addressing this.
1- I would do 3 top topics a day, one pick by the " blue", one by the " red " and one pick by both sides. We would have to figure out who's going to be on the panel as moderators. Further, I would do 2 top weekly topics.
2- The easy answer is to get the corporation that owns the site to spend some money on a google adwords program. Once again the " moderating panel" could pick one or two blogs from the site and run an ad for,let say a week. I have my own google adwords program for my photojournalist site and it does work and provide a lots of hits for a fairly small budget.
3- Weekly forums would be a great idea.
4- I would also suggest to run political polls.
5- I would run a news wire feed caption on all pages of the site.
If you want to see an example of 4 & 5 go take a look at my new political blog @ http://mercypolitics.blogspot.com/

Submitted on May 22nd, 2008 by PabloI went back and looked at a few super hot topics this year
Illegal immigration policy
Global Warming issues
ANWR and Oil Drilling
Job losses to Foreign Countries
Death penalty
Iraq War and Terrorism
Religion vs Government on policies.
Election issues
The other hot topics were from blogger's own blogs of some personal agenda or opinion or posting a bit of news. They are very diverse in scope and some were more focused discussions of the hot topics.
Hope that helps.

Submitted on May 22nd, 2008 by PabloOne or two topics is more than enough.
Let those topics be hot topics within current events that appear that day week or month.
It could be a something that was noted from one of the RBA blogs that had a point burried in the blog that would be a great topic for a focused discussion.
But I think no more than two because simply it would be over load to look at more than two a day. Previously on RBA limited the focus topics to two. It was the topic of the day of Ben and Joel.
It was enough and it spawned good responses. But to have great responses and to see more activity, it really needs to be a hot topic off the press so to speak from some breaking news that day or within a few days.
Extremely super hot topics will carry on for months. So in an effect, there will be on average 5 to 10 topics running at any one time.
Its easy to find the super hot topics. They are the topics which gets 10 or more replies from core registered bloggers.
Of you go back through RBA you will see several hot topics that ran for some time. A few are still running several months later.
It would not hurt to restart a past hot topic as current events effect it as well.
In other words, topics are plentyful. Just keep them to no more than one or two a day and sit back and watch the fire.
Ask bloggers to blog concerning issues that they find important in a sticky called topics I want to discuss calling on Bloggers to create more personal blogs that represent their view points in a full manner.
Reply to a blog can be enlightening or it could be vague.
For me this is a difficult question(s)
Submitted on May 21st, 2008 by John 2000I think that was part of the beauty of the Joel and Ben, somewhat formal moderator approach. It did lend itself toward a sense of very benevolent control. Most of us here do not have real journalistic experience and so we more or less shoot from the hip, sometimes with link references to items of interest. We lack, for the most part, formal discipline.
It is like the question of balance between anarchy and control, individual and state. We all love our freedom. After all, it is blogland. How formal can it be? Do you try and establish behavioral recommendations? The news cycle moves so fast that it is hard to establish recommended topic or even have the page in it's current design to support it.
I am sorry to have more questions than answers. On the one hand I am happy in general with the way things are, and on the other hand I can see the value of some structure. It would at the very least be nice to have more red/blue balance, and to have it without many of the insults that sometimes freely flow. But, even then, it is not so bad to me to feel the emotions and inner conflicts of those that care enough to at least express.
LOL ... I am no help at all with this ... I see. I will think on it more.
Minuteman, your ideas are totally acceptable to me.
suggestions
Submitted on May 21st, 2008 by Minuteman CA1. No more than five topics each day, because too many would be more of a distraction and this site needs a little direction. Example topics should, of course, include developements in the upcoming election, but also include whatever breaking news of the day.
2. More diversity would be great. There aren't opposing viewpoints here. Getting the word out could greatly add value to the discussions.
3. Weekly forums could go far to giving some focus throughout the week. You see now that the average lifespan of a topic is a couple of days. The forum could really improve participation.
