redblueamerica.com
2008 Advertising & Audience Information
redblueamerica.com is a new cultural and political Web site designed to bring Americans together for thoughtful and lively conversation around the daily events and topics that the country talks about and cares about. It's the virtual equivalent of the water cooler conversation.
America is a divided nation -- not just politically but culturally, too. Red or blue. Liberal or conservative. Pro-choice or pro-life. Progressive government or limited government. Many of us spend our time in media echo chambers, listening to people who reinforce what we already believe. And there are very few, if any, media platforms where the sides come together to engage in constructive debate.
The creators of redblueamerica.com believe that Americans are hungry for good argument and respectful debate and would flock to a site that offered them the best thinking from both sides.
In the 2004 presidential election, over 121 million Americans voted. And prior to stepping into the voting booth, many of those 121 million Americans went in search of unvarnished information about the decisions to be made that day. And that's just one event that sends Americans searching for more thoughtful knowledge and conversation about the cultural and political events happening in the country.
And the folks who are likely to be politically active are also very very active online. According to a 2007 study from JupiterResearch, registered voters who have volunteered for or donated to a political campaign constitute 15% of online users -- that's at least 18 million Americans based on the 121 million Americans who voted in 2004. And politically active voters who are undecided about their vote in the presidential primary comprise 11% of the online population. The study also found that active voters prefer social media, are especially likely to congregate on blogs and in the comment sections on media sites and have high usage of innovative online media such as pod casts and RSS.
